- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish.
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef with chopped onion until browned. Drain excess grease.
- Season the beef with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- In a bowl, whisk together the cream soup and milk until smooth.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes evenly in the casserole dish.
- Top with half of the cooked ground beef mixture.
- Pour half of the soup mixture over the layers and sprinkle with 1 cup of cheese.
- Repeat the layers, finishing with cheese on top.
- Cover tightly with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake an additional 15 minutes, until cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let rest for 5–10 minutes before serving.
Notes
Slice potatoes evenly to ensure they cook through.
For a 4-ingredient ground beef casserole, use beef, potatoes, cheese, and soup only.
Ground turkey can be substituted for a lighter option.
Add bell peppers or mushrooms for extra flavor.
