Ingredients
  

  • lbs ground beef
  • 4 –5 medium potatoes peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese or cheese blend
  • 1 can 10.5 oz cream of mushroom or cream of chicken soup
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder optional
  • ½ teaspoon paprika optional

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef with chopped onion until browned. Drain excess grease.
  3. Season the beef with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  4. In a bowl, whisk together the cream soup and milk until smooth.
  5. Layer half of the sliced potatoes evenly in the casserole dish.
  6. Top with half of the cooked ground beef mixture.
  7. Pour half of the soup mixture over the layers and sprinkle with 1 cup of cheese.
  8. Repeat the layers, finishing with cheese on top.
  9. Cover tightly with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  10. Remove foil and bake an additional 15 minutes, until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  11. Let rest for 5–10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Slice potatoes evenly to ensure they cook through.
For a 4-ingredient ground beef casserole, use beef, potatoes, cheese, and soup only.
Ground turkey can be substituted for a lighter option.
Add bell peppers or mushrooms for extra flavor.
