Cheesy Hamburger Potato Casserole

Ingredients
  

  • Beef Layer
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste optional
  • Potato Layer
  • 4 –5 medium potatoes thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Cheese Sauce
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese shredded
  • ½ cup mozzarella cheese shredded
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp mustard powder optional
  • Topping
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese shredded
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley chopped (optional)

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish.
  2. In a skillet, cook ground beef until browned. Add onion and garlic, cook until soft. Season with salt, pepper, paprika, and Italian seasoning. Drain excess fat.
  3. In a saucepan, melt butter. Whisk in flour and cook 1–2 minutes. Slowly add milk, whisking until thickened.
  4. Stir in cheddar, mozzarella, garlic powder, and mustard powder until smooth.
  5. Slice potatoes thinly and toss with olive oil, salt, and pepper.
  6. Layer half the potatoes in baking dish, then half the beef, then cheese sauce. Repeat layers.
  7. Top with remaining cheddar cheese.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
  9. Remove foil and bake 15–20 minutes more until potatoes are tender and cheese is golden.
  10. Rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Slice potatoes thin for even cooking.
  • Fresh shredded cheese melts better than packaged.
  • Add bell peppers or mushrooms for extra flavor.
  • Can be assembled ahead and refrigerated for up to 24 hours.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge for 3–4 days.
  • Reheat covered to keep it creamy.
