Crème Brûlée French Toast

This Crème Brûlée French Toast features thick bread soaked in a rich vanilla custard over a buttery caramel base, then baked to golden perfection. A sweet and elegant french toast breakfast perfect for brunch and special mornings.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 loaf brioche or French bread thickly sliced
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons corn syrup or honey
  • Custard
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups half-and-half or milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Method
 

  1. Melt butter, brown sugar, and corn syrup in a saucepan. Pour into a greased baking dish.
  2. Arrange bread slices over the caramel layer.
  3. Whisk eggs, milk, vanilla, and salt. Pour over bread.
  4. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  5. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 35–40 minutes until golden.
  6. Rest 5 minutes, then invert onto a plate so caramel is on top.

Notes

Use slightly stale bread for best texture.
Can soak for 2 hours if short on time.
Add cinnamon or orange zest for extra flavor.
