Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 4 hoagie rolls or sandwich buns
  • 6 –8 slices provolone cheese
  • Optional Add-ins:
  • Sliced mushrooms
  • Jalapeños or hot peppers
  • American cheese or mozzarella

Method

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add onion and bell pepper and cook for 4–5 minutes until softened. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess grease if needed.
  4. Season the beef with garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper.
  5. Return onions and peppers to the skillet and stir to combine.
  6. Reduce heat to low. Place provolone cheese slices over the beef mixture. Cover and let cheese melt for 1–2 minutes.
  7. Lightly toast hoagie rolls if desired.
  8. Spoon the cheesy beef mixture into the rolls and serve hot.

Notes

  • Use 80/20 ground beef for best flavor and juiciness
  • Toasting the rolls helps prevent soggy sandwiches
  • Provolone is classic, but American cheese melts extra creamy
  • Add mushrooms for a traditional Philly cheese steak vibe
  • Great for quick beef sandwich ideas and fast dinner recipes
