Method
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Cook ground beef and onion in a skillet until browned. Drain fat and season.
- Mix cream of mushroom soup and milk in a bowl.
- Layer half the potatoes in the dish, followed by half the beef and half the soup mixture.
- Repeat layers with remaining ingredients.
- Cover with foil and bake 45 minutes.
- Remove foil, add cheese, and bake 15 minutes more until bubbly.
- Rest 5 minutes before serving.

Slice potatoes thin for even cooking.
