Mongolian Beef Recipe

A quick and flavorful Mongolian Beef Recipe made with tender beef slices coated in a rich sweet and savory Mongolian sauce. This easy Asian-inspired dish tastes just like takeout and is perfect for busy weeknights served over rice or noodles.

Ingredients
  

  • For the Beef:
  • 1 lb flank steak or thinly sliced beef
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • For the Mongolian Sauce:
  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ½ cup water
  • cup brown sugar
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger grated
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce optional
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 green onions chopped
  • Optional:
  • Red pepper flakes for heat
  • Sesame seeds for garnish

Method
 

  1. Slice beef thinly against the grain for tenderness.
  2. Coat beef with cornstarch until lightly covered.
  3. Heat oil in a skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  4. Cook beef in batches for 2–3 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside.
  5. In the same pan, add garlic and ginger and sauté for 30 seconds.
  6. Add soy sauce, water, brown sugar, hoisin sauce, and sesame oil. Stir well.
  7. Simmer sauce for 3–5 minutes until slightly thickened.
  8. Return beef to the pan and toss to coat in sauce.
  9. Cook for 2–3 more minutes until well combined.
  10. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds, then serve hot.

Notes

  • Slice beef very thin for the most tender texture.
  • Do not overcrowd the pan to keep beef crispy.
  • You can substitute beef with ground beef for a quick Asian ground beef recipe version.
  • For slow cooker Mongolian beef, cook on low for 4–6 hours.
  • Add chili flakes for a spicy version.
  • Best served with steamed rice or noodles.
