Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs room temperature
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the Nutella Frosting
  • 1 cup Nutella
  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 –3 tablespoons milk or cream
  • Optional for Decoration
  • Chopped hazelnuts
  • Chocolate shavings
  • Extra Nutella for drizzling

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and well combined.
  4. Divide batter evenly between prepared pans and smooth the tops.
  5. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Let cake layers cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. To make the Nutella Frosting Recipe, beat butter until creamy, then add Nutella and powdered sugar. Mix until smooth, adding milk as needed for a spreadable consistency.
  8. Place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread an even layer of frosting on top.
  9. Add the second cake layer and frost the top and sides of the cake.

Notes
