Method
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two or three 8-inch round cake pans.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a large bowl, mix granulated sugar, brown sugar, oil, and eggs until smooth.
- Add buttermilk and vanilla extract, mixing well.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients.
- Stir in hot coffee or water until batter is smooth.
- Divide batter evenly between prepared pans.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Cool cake layers completely on a wire rack.
- Beat butter and peanut butter until creamy.
- Gradually add powdered sugar, cream, and vanilla until frosting is light and fluffy.
- Assemble cake by spreading frosting between layers and over the top and sides.
