- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking dish with olive oil or butter.
- Pat chicken dry and season lightly with black pepper.
- In a bowl, combine sour cream, onion soup mix, and garlic powder until smooth.
- Arrange chicken in a single layer in the prepared baking dish.
- Spread the sour cream and onion mixture evenly over the chicken.
- Sprinkle French fried onions on top if using.
- Bake uncovered for 30–35 minutes, or until chicken is fully cooked and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
- Remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
- Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
