Southern Peach Cobbler

A classic Southern Peach Cobbler made with juicy peaches baked in a sweet syrup and topped with a soft, golden cobbler topping. This easy homemade dessert is warm, comforting, and perfect served with ice cream.

Ingredients
  

  • Peach Filling
  • 6 cups fresh peaches peeled and sliced (or canned, drained)
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp nutmeg optional
  • 2 tsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Cobbler Topping
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup milk
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish.
  2. In a saucepan, combine peaches, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, cornstarch, and vanilla. Cook 5–7 minutes until syrupy.
  3. Stir in butter until melted. Pour mixture into baking dish.
  4. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Add milk, melted butter, and vanilla. Stir until just combined.
  6. Spoon batter over peach filling evenly.
  7. Bake for 35–40 minutes or until golden and bubbly.
  8. Let cool for 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use ripe peaches for best flavor.
  • Canned peaches work if well drained.
  • Do not overmix the batter to keep topping soft.
  • Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
  • Store in refrigerator up to 4 days.
  • Reheat before serving for best taste.
